An estimated 100 million animals are used in laboratory tests every year. Tests are done on all kind of animals: mice, rats, rabbits, apes but also dogs and cats.
5 reasons to ban animal testing:
- Animal testing is cruel. Many animal tests lead to pain on animals and a part of the tests are performed without any pain killers. Some tests lead to permanent injury or death. The toxicology of some products are tested by putting it in the eyes of a rabbit for days.
- Animals have rights too. Animals have rights as well and they shouldn’t be violated. Human beings are just another species of animals. Most of us wouldn’t accept that 100 million people would be submitted every year to non-voluntary tests (many leading to pain or death). Why do we allow it with animals? Animals are non-volunteers in tests when tests could be done with alternative methods.
- Animal tests aren’t reliable. People and animals are different and that’s why a medicine or cosmetic ingredient that is safe on animals may not be it on people or vis-versa. For example aspirin is toxic to rats and mice but not to people (source: BUAV)
- There are alternative to animal testing. These includes for example embryonic stem cell research. Also using volunteering people instead of non-volunteering animals is one of the alternatives.
- Animal tests are often unnecessary. As results from animal tests are often considered commercial secrets, it happens that the same products or ingredients are tested many times by different companies. The necessity of animal testing for cosmetics can be also questioned. Furthermore alternatives to animal research could be used.

I absolutely see no point in testing animals. It’s cruel and totally unnecessary. It sickens me!! Being a huge animal lover I am completely against the use of animals for testing, and I don’t understand why people are still using the cute critters. Don’t people understand that animals feel pain as much as we do? They have feelings as well, and I would support saving them all the way!!

Every time I see a product that says “not tested on animals” I think, “oh, great, so they test it on me?” I see nothing wrong with testing things on, to use Kati’s word, “cute” animals like rats and mice.
Generally, people who oppose animal testing have no knowledge of science and, without animal testing, we’d still be living in the early 20th century with influenza, smallpox, and polio running rampant.
And yes, Michael Vick is a scumbag.

The idea of ‘rights’ is completely artificial… outside the boundaries of society, there are no inherent rights. Most of the PETA-type people have zero ‘outdoor’ experience, and haven’t observed nature in its own right. They dream of a perfect nature from their apartment.
If all animals have the right to life, then how come everything kills other organisms to survive? Death in nature is not pretty or romantic - a hawk killing a vole, wolves eating a moose alive… these are things that happen every instant, and are not beautiful for the victim.
We all have our own personal right to survival, and the conflict that arises is obvious - me or them! We have the fortune/curse of abstract thought, and can question what we are doing to our prey, and if it justifies the end.
We all have contributed to the destruction of the earth through the mining of minerals for our computers, the trees for our paper, the petroleum for our plastics, earth and soil degredation for our food (animal or plant)… harming animals for medicine is one more thing to the list, as sad as that is.

I believe that animal testing is cruel and disturbing, yes I know that great cures and medicines have been discovered but these discoveries could of been approached in a different way. Most animals that are tested on are left to suffer alone for trivial things such as hair spray. Humans and animals function differently for e.g. morphine makes us quite sleepy and relieves pain but on a cat it makes them hyper. Even though scientific “research” has saved many lives it has also killed many people in the process. Many drugs have been tested on animals and scientist have come to the conclusion that they are safe to us on humans for e.g. an arthritis drug Vioxx, but it ended up having a negative effect on humans and caused people to have strokes and heart attacks.
Experimenting on animals needs to be stop or even at least done in a humane way.

Animal testing is good. No animal’s life is worth the life of a human. Many more animals are killed for plenty of other reasons such as hunting, pest control, etc. Animals are not equal to humans. If you think they are, you need to wakeup and actually think about what humans live for and what animals live for. You will see a huge difference between animals and humans. Humans are way more complex than animals. You animal lovers will never win. Animals are actally being useful when they are being used in tests. They are helping to make a difference in the lives of many humans when they are being tested on. AND, animals dont have a say in plenty of things. Examples are: being taken away from their mother and being sold, Living in zoos for our entertainment instead of running free, being kept in cages waiting to be killed for the next person who wants to eat a steak, etc. “Show me the animal i have to kill to save the life of a human, and i will rip it apart with by bare hands”, GOD i love that quote!

Animal Testing is WRONG! I can’t believe sick people would even think to do that to a creature. Just because they don’t have voices and can’t speak up doesn’t mean we have to test on them. There are alternatives such as cloning DNA! Think about the suffering they go through and the pain, but they can’t speak out because we assume they don’t have feelings. We wouldn’t like to be locked up in a pen to have things forced at our eyes mouths, and body! Its so wrong and i want people who take part in such a cruel process to stop and think about what they are doing and imagine if they were the animal.

I hate it when my rabbit is in pain. He might hop to close to a chair and his nail gets pulled. Then he jumps back and starts to bleed and shakes a lot. I am sure those animals who are tested on feel pain 10 times worse then that. But it really helps my rabbit to hold him firmly or pet his neck feed him from your hand. If people won’t stop animal testing can’t they just care for the animals like I care for my rabbit when he’s hurt?

Yes animal testing is cruel for animals. no one wants to see another living creature suffer the way they do in the labs. But i would have to say im thankful for animal testing because without it, we wouldn’t have medicines for our cold and fever etc. Ironically, your pet’s vaccines were tested on other animals before being injected into your lovable pet to help them have a healthy longer life. Animal testing is not inhumane because it would be worse if scientists were to use humans (they already do but not as much) to test on.

The next time you eat a hamburger or wear leather or anything that had to do with killing an animal..think about what the difference is between animal testing and animal slaughtering. by the way, there are more animals used and killed for agricultural reasons, pest control, euthanasia, automobiles, etc than there are in the laboratories.

Animal testing is arrogant and incredibly cruel. Like us, animals can feel pain and fear, but also excitement and satisfaction. Close contact with animals shows that they look forward to some extents, and can clearly get a lot of enjoyment from their lives, be it from basking in the sun, exercising, eating favorite food, or interacting with others, as in playing and mutual grooming. Certainly animals don’t have the same abilities as humans. They can’t talk, write books or drive cars, but neither can some humans. I have been doing a report on this at school for my science corsework and my research has lead me to believe that animal testing is needed so that incidents like the Thalidomide incident never happen again. If they stopped testing on animals incidents like this may happen again and again. Also because of the Thalidomide incident all Drugs and Cosmetics must be tested on single human cells then test on animals then tested on Humans. Only then can they be sold to the public. While many people dispute the effectiveness of these trial there has been very few incidents where drugs have had to be called back after the current testing standards. The piece of evidence that made me think this way was. ‘’Laboratory animals most commonly are used in three main areas: biomedical research, product safety testing, and education. Biomedical researchers use animals in their efforts to understand the workings of the body and the processes of disease and health, and to develop new vaccines and treatments for various diseases. This sort of research isn’t solely for the benefit of human health; it is aimed at developing new veterinary techniques as well.’’ This shows that the animals are well organised and are not used as if they are deposable and that they serve many different uses and that a lot of good can come from them. This evidence also shows that they are not careless how they use the animals and that they make sure that they are all accounted for. I now personally think that animal testing is ok because if it saves human lives it is worth the cost.

millions of human and animal lives. Animal testing has provided lives for victims of
breast cancer, AIDS, diabetes, tuberculosis, and asthma. Scientists use animal testing
every day in attempt to cure many diseases, and in the past, this essential lifesaving
method has proved very useful. For the saved lives of millions of humans, millions of
animals, and thousands of improved lives, animal testing and vivisection must continue,
to further benefit our medical advances and our society.
Initially, testing on animals improves many lives. Eighty percent or more of
testing is done on rodents like rats and mice. Less than .05 percent of testing is on cats,
dogs, and monkeys combined. That’s just five out of ten thousand animals tested.
Without these cats, dogs, monkeys, and rodents,inhalers for asthma would not exist. Caelan, who is in my English class, has the terribledisease of asthma. Asthma constantly causes your lungs to swell, resulting in difficulty of breath. Variations of asthma cause you to have asthma attacks. Antidepressants and anti-anxiety drugs enhance thousands of lives every day worldwide. The lives of millions more are dramatically improved by these crucial tests. Billions of lives have benefitted from animal testing. One saved life could benefit hundreds. If one person dies, hundreds of future generations would not come about. This would not kill thousands, but it would take away thousands of opportunities to live. Also, for example, if the pope died of tuberculosis, hundreds of millions of people would be affected negatively over just this one loss. Tests contribute to billions of lives positively and can contribute to billions more if animal testing continues.
In addition, animal testing and vivisection has saved many million human lives
and has the potential to save millions more. Charles Darwin, who theorized that all
humans came from chimpanzees, stated, “I know that physiology cannot possibly
progress except by means of experiments on living animals”. One in eleven women are
affected by breast cancer. That’s more than 40,000 people just in the UK. Rat testing
has made breast cancer deaths drop by thirty percent since the nineties with chemotherapy. Now, breast cancer victims have a seventy-seven percent five-year survival rate. That means that after five years, about seven and a half out of ten women stay alive. Many would argue that nobody should test on animals, but ninety-seven percent of physicians agree that animal testing should continue, and ninety-nine percent of physicians agree that animal testing has benefitted medical progress in the past. From the many hundred lives saving our soldiers on D-day to the modern day, penicillin, another antibiotic tested on animals, has saved millions of lives. Imagine that your mother has cancer and the only way to save her is to test a cure on, say… one thousand mice. You could allow scientists to test and possibly kill the animals and save your mother, or you could save the mice and have your mother die. It’s your choice.
Perhaps most importantly although, is that animal testing saves millions upon millions of animal lives. These medicines, cures, and antibiotics provided through animal testing benefit the species being tested on as well as millions of humans. The cure for diabetes, insulin, was first tested on a diabetic dog who was soon to die, making it whole. This is one phenomenal way of many humane techniques that keep animals alive while testing, and even benefit them. No one could argue that saving a dog’s life in testing is detrimental to anyone or anything. If humans hadn’t saved this one dog’s life, millions of diabetic animals would not have lived. Penicillin, the lifesaving antibiotic previously mentioned that has proved helpful to millions of animals around the world, was only possible through animal testing. Eight mice were given a deadly 110 million streptococci bacteria and four were given penicillin. The four with penicillin lived, yet the other four died. Blood transfusion, another testing miracle, started on animals. The first animal to have blood transfused into its bloodstream was a dog. Blood transfusion is employed following many surgeries. It is also put to use after open heart surgery to prevent cancers and amenia. My grandmother had open heart surgery and I would be completely devastated if she obtained cancer. Animal testing is needed in order to save animals’ lives.

I think that animal testing is a good cause and should be practiced by all physicians. All of the people that say that “Why don’t we take people at random and test these products on them” are dults. Why don’t we test the products on you people and see how you people like it? Maybe then you people will change your minds about animal testing. Human testing is too dangerous to do, numerous tests have ended in disaster with the deaths of the people, when the whole event could have been avoided by just using animals. It is sad when an animal dies, but it is even more sad when a human dies. Think about that.

Most animal testing is done on rats and mice! And Guess what! They multiply like crazy!!! As do most animals tested on! So why do you all complain? Animal testing is not fair to animals and i personaly would give 10 bucks for electronic testing than cute little helpless animals. They cannot defend themselves and end up having humans decide their life!!! Think about it is it really fair??? There are other ways so F***ck animal testing!!!!!!!

Ok, all you people who say that animals suck or animal testing is the best ever. You all are bloody mad. Animals have feelings just like we do. Scientist force them into doing these tests for HUMAN KIND. They get no benefit from it. 50% of animals die after a test. Animals are smart, lovely, beautiful creatures who deserve a right just like we have. Just because we don’t understand them doesn’t mean that we should not respect them. Another thing… animals take to diseases differently then humans. So most of the time the tests fail and take forever to find a cure. Animals are different from humans and are not the same therefore, we can not go on with animal testing for “our own good”PERIOD!

Seriously, none of the facts listed here are actual facts! In order to be facts, they need to be cited. These are all opinions and myths at best. Animal Research is quite necessary, the animals live in clean, comfortable environments. Often better treated and cared for then their pet counter parts since their cages are cleaned every day and they are fed on a regular, nutritious schedule! Most pets are forgotten about and may be cleaned ever few weeks!

And all those medicines out there? They’re useless. Sooner or later, those viruses will evolve and will change THEIR system so that they cannot be affected by the medicines WE have. Animal testing? It is absolutley sick to assume that animals do not have as much right to life as us.
I feel very strongly against that. Animals have as much right to life as humans, and if we are supposedly the most intelligent animals then should we not realised that? Strict controls have not prevented researchers from abusing animals and deaths through research are absolutely unnecessary and are morally no different from murder. When locked up they suffer tremendous stress. Can we know they don’t feel pain? Those are my moral issues.
My practical issues:
1_ Animals can react differently to drugs - there is always a certain chance of failure.
2_ Alternatives include test tube studies on human tissues, statistics and computer models; people dislike this idea just because it costs a bit more money. So they put a price on an animal’s life.
3_ The stress that animals endure in labs can affect experiments, making the results meaningless.
4_ Animals are still used to test items like cleaning products, which are more or less pointless.

Wow, this is one big list of comments. I am quite neutral to this controversial issue, but I’m leaning more towards the side of saying no to animal testing, though some rare times it is necessary for human lives. I’ve researched on reasons against this topic for my English debate, and they’ve really convinced me. Animals and humans are different, so why waste billions of dollars and millions of lives of animals on products or cures that almost none will never work? I read that there was over half a million compounds screened as anti-cancer agents on lab animals between 1970-1985. Only 80 compounds moved into clinical trials on humans, 24 of these had anti-cancer activity, and only 12 appeared to have a “substantial clinical role.” Wow, that is very saddening to me. So much pain to bear and so many deaths.

Hey, all I can say is that animal testing is both good and wrong.
Think about the positives:
research for humans and saving lives.
The negatives:
pain and suffering for the animals.
My opinion is that animal testing should only be done for cures. But I think that all animal testing should be banned for things like cosmetics, cleaning products ect. I mean we can live without those. And I think that they should at least be nice to the animals:)

To me, i dont think animal testing is so horrible. Animals should have rights too but their rights should be limitations to the extent of how we test them. Just to face it, animal testing HAS to be done and without it millions of human beings would be dead from some medical cause. For example, if any of you have diabetis, you wouldn’t have lived because insulin was tested on dogs and bovines by Frederick Bantig and John Macleod which isolates parts of the pancreas that cause diabetis and if you just look it up there are a lot more discoveries due to AT.

there are so many alternatives to animal research, i know, i’ve done a lot of research on it, and they are way more reliable. and the argument that without animal research we’d be dead is ridiculous. over the years many people have died because of medicine that was supposedly “safe” and was tested on animals. i luv animals sooo much, and it’s cruel what they do to animals. if we got rid of animal testing then we’d have more money to use on humane methods that actually do give results.

I am an absolute ANIMAL LOVER. but animals are not on the same level as humans. they deserve to be treated RESPECTFULLY which is why we have the ANIMAL WELFARE ACT to protect animals that are used for testing. A lot goes into animal testing. It’s not just a bunch of idiots who got together to torture animals for their please. NO. There are laws that are followed and Committes and Vets who look over these tests. ANIMAL TESTING IS NOT CRUEL. Yes they can be harmed and die, but the defenition of “cruel” is INTENTIONAL HARM, and animal testing is not to intentionaly harm the aniaml, it’s to discover new treatments and to understand why things are the way they are.

The use of animals have save millions of lives. With out animal testing we wouldn’t have the use of:

MRI scans
life support for premature babies

Animale testing is wrong…in some ways. Yes animal testing is wrong in the cruelty sort of way, and yes I think that is is wrong to test cosmetics on animals. I mean there are thousands of make-up produts out there, we truley don’t need more. I also believe that we could all go out and bye “cruelty free” or non animal tested shampoos and such…
But in a sense animal testing is all right. I mean, I have to take medications when I’m ill, and I’m sure you do to, and every single medicatio out there is animal tested. Besides there are a few volenteering humans…but if you really want to help volenteer yourself.
So yes animal testing is wrong in some ways. (we really don’t need any more cosmetics, or make-up) But it is, and I really hate to say this, good in others. (Medical siduations, not only for humans but animal testing help sick animals too!)

Anyone who does not support animal testing has never actually studied, nor conducted, scientific research.
Furthermore, it is embarrassing and ignorant to not appreciate the impact animal testing has had on your life.
If you truly disagree with animal testing, the only moral choice would be to abstain from using pain or fever reducers, antibiotics, steroids, cancer treatments, HIV/AIDS treatments, and many vitamin supplements.
Or, of course, you can volunteer your own children for testing if that is more “ethical” to you.

i don’t wholly agree with animal testing but I think it’s stupid to say it should be completely banned. An alternative would be far more expensive and more time consuming. Its harsh but true to say that there would be far more backlash when taxes rise just because you didnt want animals tested.
Also testing of animals has led to a lot of useful medical developments, they may not always work but its a risk worth taking.
People spend their own time and money trying to kill rodents such as rats anyway, so whats the harm in killing them for a beneficial cause?
Even though I don’t agree with them being tested for cosmetic purposes, I do think that they should be used for medical development.

For all those who claim that animal testing is wrong and that an alternative should be used, please enlighten us on this great “alternative” you have discovered…Although it is unfortunate that animals have to experience pain during the testing process, it is also necessary for products/medicines to be tested before they are released onto the market.
Some people above have emphasised the fact that animals do not volunteer for the tests (well duh since when have animals had the ability to communicate with us coherently-let alone volunteer to do something?!) and that humans should volunteer, well sorry to break it to you but not many people will be willing to risk their lives that way- and the few that might, for whatever reason, accept will not be sufficiant to cover all the required tests etc. Also, the life-span of a lab rabbit or rat is much shorter than that of a human being therefore should a test cause some kind of damage/disability for its subject, then i’d much rather have a rabbit suffer, who is more likely to die soon , than a human, who might live to say 60.
Also, it is worth mentioning the fact that animals do not have the choice to volunteer for other things they are forced to do such as working with the police force or rescue teams and even guide dogs don’t have the choice to volunteer to be a quide dog. Yet we hear no complains about that.
Furthermore, i would just like to say that while we sit and worry about animals feeling pain (for a beneficial cause may i add-many lives are saved due to their sacrifice), many more humans are killed, tortured, starved, raped, victimized etc, etc the list goes on. Yet the world stares and says “oh dear, thats awful”. Millions die of aids, of starvation, or for the mere fact that they are of a certain religion/race. Millions of children are made orphans, forced to sleep on the streets, deprived of education and the most basic of human rights.
The recent news of the Isreali attack on Gaza shows more violence, more suffering, more innocent lives being lost. Instead of focusing our energies on achieving peace in the middle-east, of pressurizing our governments to intervene, of uniting and speaking up against injustice, we find ourselves wasting precious time and effort on meaningless, worthless matters.
P.S I want to clarify that I am against animal cruelty, such as killing leopards,crocodiles, ponies etc merely for their skin. This is what I consider to be real cruelty against animals.

Firstly, how do you think we know what we know in the scientific field? through experiments (not just animal experiements, but experiements in every scientific matter/theory) scientists didn’t just wake up knowlegdeable. Secondly, how do you expect our knowledge to expand and develop if scientists don’t keep challenging and testing theories. People used to think the earth was flat-if no one thought to challenge this theory then we would still believe it is flat, thinking that we already know “all about the shape of the earth by now”. The same goes for science, my friend. If we adopt the “we already know” attitude we will never learn truth.
to juliana- you say that animals are burned alive to study severe burns on live tissue. If you were in a fire and had severe burns wouldn’t you want a medicine which would cure you, or improve your condition at least? Such a medicine couldn’t have been developed unless tests had been carried out-i’d rather it were a animal than a human.
The problem is that so many of you who are so vehemently against animal testing, actually know very little about it’s signficance in our lives today. The question is: would you trade all the luxuries we enjoy today , from medicines to soaps, for a no animal testing policy? i doubt that you would. Without animal testing life as we know it would not have been came about.
This is not to say that all animal testing is relevant or necessary (such as in the cosmetic industry), or that it is all humane(despite the fact that several measures are put in place to ensure this), or that it the only means of testing our products. However, the truth is that it is the best means, in terms of efficiency and effectivity. It is indeed worthwhile to invest in new technology to allow us to test our products. But untill such a discovery or development is made animal testing remains the best way to test our products.

Animals were created first in the Bible, and we should not take our role as dominant species as an advantage. I am very disappointed, though not surprised, that humans would do this kind of crap to animals.

Just some facts of how stupid animal testing is!:
(1) Less than 2% of human illnesses (1.16%) are ever seen in animals.
(2) According to the former scientific executive of Huntingdon Life Sciences, animal tests and human results agree only ‘5%-25% of the time’.
(3) 95% of drugs passed by animal tests are immediately discarded as useless or dangerous to humans.
(4) At least 50 drugs on the market cause cancer in laboratory animals. They are allowed because it is admitted the animal tests are not relevant.
(5) Procter & Gamble used an artificial musk despite it failing the animal tests, i.e., causing tumours in mice. They said the animal test results were ‘of little relevance for humans’.
(6) When asked if they agreed that animal experiments can be misleading ‘because of anatomical and physiological differences between animals and humans’, 88% of doctors agreed.
(7) Rats are only 37% effective in identifying what causes cancer to humans. Flipping a coin would be more accurate.
(8) Rodents are the animals almost always used in cancer research. They never get carcinomas, the human form of cancer, which affects membranes (e.g lung cancer). Their sarcomas affect bone and connecting tissue: the two cannot be compared.
(9) Up to 90% of animal test results are discarded as they are inapplicable to man.
(10) The results from animal experiments can be altered by factors such as diet and bedding. Bedding has been identified as giving cancer rates of over 90% and almost nil in the same strain of mice at different locations.
(11) Sex differences among laboratory animals can cause contradictory results. This does not correspond with humans.
(12) 9% of anaesthetised animals, intended to recover, die.
(13) An estimated 83% of substances are metabolised by rats in a different way to humans.
(14) Attempts to sue the manufacturers of the drug Surgam failed due to the testimony of medical experts that: ‘data from animals could not be extrapolated safely to patients’.
(15) Lemon juice is a deadly poison, but arsenic, hemlock and botulin are safe according to animal tests.
(16) Genetically modified animals are not models for human illness. The mdx mouse is supposed to represent muscular dystrophy, but the muscles regenerate without treatment.
(17) 88% of stillbirths are caused by drugs which are passed as being safe in animal tests, according to a study in Germany.
(18) 61% of birth defects are caused by drugs passed safe in animal tests, according to the same study. Defect rates are 200 times post war levels.
(19) One in six patients in hospital are there because of a treatment they have taken.
(20) In America, 100,000 deaths a year are attributed to medical treatment. In one year 1.5 million people were hospitalised by medical treatment.
(21) A World Health Organisation study showed children were 14 times more likely to develop measles if they had been vaccinated.
(22) 40% of patients suffer side effects as a result of prescription treatment.
(23) Over 200,000 medicines have been released, most of which are now withdrawn. According to the World Health Organisation, only 240 are ‘essential’.
(24) A German doctors’ congress concluded that 6% of fatal illnesses and 25% of organic illness are caused by medicines. All have been animal tested.
(25) The lifesaving operation for ectopic pregnancies was delayed 40 years due to vivisection.
(26) According to the Royal Commission into vivisection (1912), ‘The discovery of anaesthetics owes nothing to experiments on animals’. The great Dr Hadwen noted that ‘had animal experiments been relied upon…humanity would have been robbed of this great blessing of anaesthesia’. The vivisector Halsey described the discovery of Fluroxene as ‘one of the most dramatic examples of misleading evidence from animal data’.
(27) Aspirin fails animal tests, as does digitalis (a heart drug), cancer treatments, insulin (causes animal birth defects), penicillin and other safe medicines. They would have been banned if vivisection were heeded.
(28) In the court case when the manufacturers of Thalidomide were being tried, they were acquitted after numerous experts agreed that animal tests could not be relied on for human medicine.
(29) Blood transfusions were delayed 200 years by animal studies, corneal transplants were delayed 90 years.
(30) Despite many Nobel prizes being awarded to vivisectors, only 45% agree that animal experiments are crucial.
(31) At least 450 methods exist with which we can replace animal experiments.
(32) At least thirty-three animals die in laboratories each second worldwide; in the UK, one every four seconds.
(33) The Director of Research Defence Society, (which exists to defend vivisection) was asked if medical prgress could have been acheived without animal use. His written reply was ‘I am sure it could be’.

1) People are in no way better then animals. Can some one plz explain to me why people think they r better?Cuz if ur refering to the bible, animals were created b4 people. so next time u get to thinking ur so cool and stuff, just remember, worms were created b4 u were. if nobody wants to cause these animals any more pain than necessary, why do they destroy dogs’ voice boxes so that they can’t whine or cry out? why do they not make sure the entire staff knows how to properly euthanize the animals? i am all for finding cures. i used to think that if we could use animals to find the cure for cancer, than the end justifies the means. but what if we’ve been using these animals when we could be finding better ways to research things and find the cures faster? Oh no you say no way. Of course that is your reaction. We need animal testing to further progression and stop the furthering of terrible diseases and illnesses. I would love for all you people who are against testing so badly to have to go through the pain of the Polio virus and tell me you would rather save those animals then all the children and yourselves.
And if you actually even paid attention and did your studying, you would know that the regulations on animals inside of laboratory’s here have more in place to protect them and make sure their living environments are good and stable than in an elderly home. I believe that animal testing is very cruel thing to do, its pointless, harms the animals and doesnt even work in some cases, when a drug called Philidimide came out several years ago, it was meant to stop women being sick during pregnancy, they experimented it on rats and it had no effect but when humans used it their children were born with horrible deformities, i.e without arms, eyes or a different body part.
People who test on animals or harm animals in anyway are viscious bastards and deserve to be tested on themselves see how they like it! personally i believe that animal testing should be abolished, there is nothing good about animal testing, its monkeys being strapped into chair and electromagnets tested on them, rats having their skulls bashed open for experimental brain surgery to be tested on them and beagles (small dogs) wired into a machine full on insuline for 2-3 years never seeing the light of day, while the scientists wait to see how long they can hold out, this is cruel and unreasonable! stop animal testing now!

I’m against animal testing. Humans have rights, why can’t animals?? Animals have feelings too, but then how would we know if we can’t communicate with them. But they do. Imagine being taken from your home in the wild, never being able to see your friends or family again. Then being trasported to an alien laboratory, equpped with death chambers and instruments of torture. You are force to live - no, struggle to live in overcrowded, barbaric conditions. Most of us would have lost our minds by this point. Yeah, we could use criminals for the experiments…but wouldn’t some of them (rapists) have AIDS or some disease?? I dont know I’m just asking >.>

We are living in the 21th century, why do we still need to test products on animals? We can clone human skin, why can’t we use cloned human skin to conduct these lethal experiments, instead of killing animals that have done nothing wrong?
I know what human skin cloning is expensive, but ask yourself this, if animals are needed to test whether the product is save, and to make sure that it can save lives, e.g medicine, if you have a pet, will you let your pet be experimented on? If you allow your pet to be experimented on, ripped into shreds, and other cruel shit, then you are not only cruel but you support animal testing. But, if you do not want to let your pet be experimented on, you support animal ban (although you support animal testing as you would not risk your pet’s live for the safety of millions of people)

I am doing an english persuasive essay on why animal testing is wrong and why is should be banned. I have come up with 4 reasons why:
1: animal testing costs a lot to perform
2: drugs that pass tests can end up killing humans anyways
3: animals and humans are very different
(physically,intellectually)
4: animals are torchured in the process
I will analyze these and end up with a paper about 4-5 pages in length. I truely believe that animal testing is wrong and these examples pretty much some it up. So those of you who are for animal testing, maybe you should think about these reasons, research them, and reevalalute your thinking about animal testing. *SAVE THE ANIMALS*

in practice it’s stupid. if you lived in a glass bubble not moving or breathing then the results would be different from a moving animal. this is because life is random and life in a glass jar is regulated.
and all you people doing essays on it. you need to look at both sides of the story. 90% of all life saving medicine was developed with animal testing.
in the u.k the animals 60% of the time dont even need the pain killers that are used if necessary.

AGREE that the death of millions, if not BILLIONS of people worldwide is an acceptable loss if it means that the use of animal testing and the treatments derived from it ended today.
AGREE that halting the search for cures and understanding of Alzheimer’s disease, schizophrenia, all types of cancer, heart disease and EVERY OTHER DISORDER is an acceptable loss as these fields would be brought to a HALT if animal research were discontinued.

animal testing is optional for the people testing them. Although my opinion is that it is wrong. Other people think otherwise. There are other ways to test drugs instead of on animals and using humans is not an excuse for disagreeing with me. I respect animals, so i dont kill them unless its a necessary risk. Drug testing is not necessary. We have screwed up so many times in our history that testing on humans and animals doesnt seem to be that bad. try it on plants or anything that resembles human DNA. I just think its wrong. If you disagree, thats your opinion

one thing to point out is that all the anti-animal testing comments are poorly worded and horribly misspelled. that tells you something right there.
animal testing, while sad, is necessary. without testing on animals, we wouldn’t have made a quarter of the medical advances that we have today. some of the unnecessary testing should be stopped, like the hairspray and makeup tests, and the shock tests, but for the most part testing should continue. and it’s not like the lab techs are trying to make the animal miserable. they don’t hit them or anything. they just run the necessary tests.

For all the anti-animal testing people, you guys are a bunch of morons! We can all agree to some point that animal testing is cruel, but it is necessary(atleast for the moment).
First of all, I want those of you who are against animal testing to give your reasons as to why you’re against it, and not merely because it’s cruel or unfair. It’s more than clear that medicine wouldn’t have reached the level it has today had it not been for animal testing. Benefits such as effective and safe vaccines outweigh the losses. Besides, the world is not a fair place and all animals, including humans, survive by competing against each other. Humans as higher animals with the ability to reason and analyze, have the responsibility to treat non-human animals with respect, but by no means does that implie that we stop using them to our advantage. Yes that sounds callous, but that’s how life has always functioned and will always function. One must first and foremost sympathize/empathize with humans who suffer from maladies and illnesses before sympathizing with the animals who unfortunately, but inevitably must suffer to provide cures for these people.
So before you start yelping ‘No to animal testing’ remove your heads out of your asses and stop being such hypocrites.

I’m troubled by some animal testing, too, but there are a lot of kinds of animal testing and a lot of good outcomes for many of them.
Reasons for animal testing:
Cures and teatments have been developed that save human lives. Treatments for diabetes, cancer, etc. would not be available if it were not for animal testing.
Many things that have been discovered through animal testing also benefit other animals, not just humans.
Much animal testing doesn’t hurt the animal… for example in behavior experiments, often all that happens is the animal gets a treat in exchange for doing some easy behavior like pressing a lever.
In some cases animals are placed in homes or sanctuaries after the experiments.
There are institutional review boards that oversee testing to ensure that the animals are treated as well as possibl

I higly agree with Katie when she says that animals have the right to live a full, happy life. I think that animal testing should never be done, for any reason. Thos company who test their products on animals and kill those poor creatures should have the same chemicals tested on THEM.
Animals share this grat planet with us and should be able to live out a long life as a very happy and free creature. Animal testing ruins all of that.
Millions of animals are killed every year (and the number is constanly rising every year) just to be tested on with lethal, cruel, harmful chemicals and preoducts THAT DON’T EVEN WORK! Why should all of these poor, helpless critters die every day for the use of humans?!?!?!? THEY SHOULDN’T!
Humans are reducing the life spans of many cratures incluing rats, mice, monkeys, cats, dogs, reptiles, mammals, insects, birds, horses, and many more types of animals that are tortured and killed I write this down.
Animal testing must be stopped immediatly! Please help stop animal testing and animal cruelty today! Together, we can stop these cruel, barbaric practices of torture!

I think animal testing is EXTREAMELY wrong and should be delt with. it is unfair on animals and just think about what condtion they are kept in inside labs. probaly in horible cramped cages that get to small very quickly and the animals are miss-treated. so, PLEASE think about the poor animals going throught SOOOO much unecassary pain & injurys.
HELP THE ANIMALS.
AND BAN ANIMAL TESTING.

ok people stop thinking about yorself for a minute and think about animals just for 60 minutes. would you volinteer your dog rat cat or whatever if you say no good if you say yes you have probs ok really think about the animals they keep you company. and all that you now pets matter too some pets are known to cure too i cant imagine whatching an animal being tested. cant you test it on somthen else ok pretend you switch spots for a day with a pet thats going to be tested. and you fell that pain that you would be suffering thats the same way your pet or any pet would fell so stop thinking about yourself and thinkabout a pet. If you think that animal testing are good because animals are ranked under humans, you’re deadly wrong. True humans created machines and computers, even a source of light. But think about it, what they’ve created are a chance to be lazy. Internet is amazing, but think how much you rely on it. Animals depends on their knowledge, they learn through danger or parents. In so much ways, animals are power over men.
If you think animal testing are good because animals dies anyways, you are not even human. Animals are made to be a companion, they are made to be loved and not tortured. Yes, they do die in nature, but that’s their cycle. If men kills them, it’s called abuse, in some cases, I would acknowledge it as murder.
True, testing on animals did sometimes save many people’s lives. But think, out of the many thousands of animals that died to save maybe you, if you seen the tapes of them dieing…would you have no regret of taking the pill that was offered to you? Is it really worth it?
The main reason that I oppose animal testing, animals are treated *excuse my language* like shit and worthless objects in the testing place. Their cages were small and sometimes didn’t even have a flat floor for them to stand. Tubes were jammed down their nose, throats, even mouth to inject raw material.
If they treated the animals like their equal, if they provided them a bed to rest, if they did more than enough research before injecting them. I might agree to the terms of animal testing.

i think its wrong to test animals they should be tested. and the reasons are they defenseoless creatures they dont have voice to say ” HELP ME HELP I DONT WANT TO BE ANIMAL TESTED” no they cant do that and since when do animals have the same things as a human something could affect them and not us something could not affect them but affect us that still puts us in danger so why even bother to test poor defenceless creatures!!!
